    Interim Head of Human Resources

    This is a critical leadership position supporting the Chief Operating Officer and Head of Department on complex HR matters. The role ensures effective oversight of HR services across a large, globally distributed workforce, including 2,500 overseas staff. You will play a key part in driving strategic HR initiatives, managing organisational change, and aligning people practices with departmental goals to support impactful scientific research.

    You will provide strategic and operational HR support across the department, advising senior stakeholders including the COO and Head of Department, while leading and managing the HR team to ensure high-quality, compliant service delivery. The role involves overseeing HR operations across UK and international research units and subsidiary companies, driving organisational change initiatives, and managing complex HR cases. You will build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, ensure consistent implementation of HR policies, act as a subject matter expert promoting best practice, and lead, develop and engage a large HR team to foster a culture of excellence.

    You will be a recognised HR professional, holding CIPD Level 7, with proven senior leadership experience in complex organisations and a strong track record of delivering strategic initiatives and leading organisational change. You will have experience managing risk and complex HR cases, alongside excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills. Strong organisational and prioritisation abilities, combined with clear and effective written and verbal communication, are essential. Experience working across international or multi-site environments and the ability to provide expert advice while leading high-performing teams are also key to success in this role.
