    Portfolio & PMO Manager

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Portfolio & PMO Manager leads portfolio management, project governance, technical financial management, vendor oversight, and assure delivery execution. The role requires a strategic yet hands‑on leader with strong programme and project management governance and assurance experience. The postholder ensures initiatives align to business priorities, follow robust governance, and deliver measurable value.

    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

    Portfolio & Programme Management

    • Develop and maintain portfolio roadmaps, prioritisation processes, and investment planning.
    • Monitor portfolio performance, risks, dependencies, and benefit realisation for executive reporting.
    • Define and track OKRs and KPIs for delivery effectiveness.
    • Provide hands‑on oversight and lead issue resolution across key initiatives.

    Leadership & Line Management

    • Manage and develop a high‑performing team through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.

    Project Governance & Assurance

    • Establish and embed governance frameworks, standards, and methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).
    • Lead governance forums and steering committees, ensuring clear reporting and decision‑
    • Drive continuous improvement of PMO processes, tooling, and automation.
    • Act as the escalation point for major risks, dependencies, and delivery challenges.

    Compliance, Security & Risk

    • Ensure adherence to regulatory, security, and data‑privacy requirements.
    • Partner with Cybersecurity, Risk, and Compliance teams to embed best practices.
    • Maintain IT risk frameworks to identify and mitigate delivery risks.

    Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, aligning initiatives to strategic objectives.
    • Produce concise, data‑driven reporting on performance, risks, and delivery status.
    • Collaborate with business, IT, finance, and operational teams to ensure alignment.
    • Lead change management activities to support adoption of new processes and tools.
    • Develop high‑quality presentations and management information for the CIO.

    Vendor & Contract Management

    • Oversee vendor relationships, contract renewals, and cost‑optimisation activities.
    • Ensure appropriate review and approval of contracts and invoices.
    • Work with procurement and legal teams to ensure compliance and effective negotiation.

    Financial & Resource Management

    • Provide oversight of portfolio budgets, forecasts, and financial governance.
    • Optimise resource allocation to maximise value delivery.
    • Partner with finance on cost control and financial reporting.
    • Ensure diligence with all Tech related costs and invoice submission and approval.

    PMO Tools & Technology Enablement

    • Implement and optimise PMO tools (e.g., JIRA, ServiceNow, Smartsheet, Clarity PPM, MS Project).
    • Improve reporting quality through automation and real‑time dashboards.
    • Foster data‑driven decision‑making across the portfolio.

    WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: 

    Education & Certifications

    • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, Technology, Project Management, or related field.
    • Preferred certifications: PMP/PgMP, SAFe/Agile (Scrum Master, PMI‑ACP, SAFe Agilist), Lean Six Sigma, ITIL/COBIT.

    Professional Experience

    • 10+ years’ experience in portfolio management, PMO leadership, or programme/project delivery.
    • 3+ years’ experience managing direct reports.
    • Proven track record governing complex, cross‑functional initiatives.
    • Strong experience in vendor management.
    • Experience collaborating with senior stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage large budgets and drive financial optimisation.
    • Practical experience with Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery models.

    Technical & Business Skills

    • Strong proficiency with PMO tools and reporting platforms.
    • Ability to interpret portfolio data, risks, and dependencies to provide actionable insights.
    • Experience with digital transformation, IT programmes, cloud initiatives, and data‑led decision‑
    • Solid understanding of regulatory, compliance, and security requirements.

    Leadership & Soft Skills

    • Hands‑on leadership style with the ability to drive delivery directly when required.
    • Excellent communication and executive‑level presentation skills.
    • Strong stakeholder management and relationship‑building capabilities.
    • Strategic thinker with strong problem‑solving skills.
    • Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and maintain alignment across technology and business areas.
