As a part of the materials R&D team this role will be focused on developing the materials science and processing capability of the business in order to support the broader product development objectives of the Company. This will encompass a broad spectrum of materials, including metals, polymer composites, metals, ceramics and elastomers; along with their associated manufacturing process technologies.
The person fulfilling this role will have the capacity to influence the future product and manufacturing strategies of the Company and develop into the role of subject matter expert, leading to progression into a more senior role.
This will require the delivery of a high standard of written and spoken communication, at all levels across the Company; and externally.
Responsibilities:
Technical credibility with the capability to become a recognized subject matter expert.
Willing to operate and maintain a diverse range of test equipment.
This person needs to be a motivated and well organized self-starter with a clear focus on achieving results.
Strong team working skills are essential, including planning and target setting.
Excellent communication skills in English for both internal and external audiences.
Cultural awareness.
Additional language skills would be advantageous.
Willing to do some occasional domestic travel.
Requirements:
Minimum qualification is a bachelors degree (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, engineering science or materials science with experience working in polymer composites metallurgy, and ceramics technology.
Some experience running laboratory equipment would be beneficial, although in-house training would be provided.
Proven and demonstrable experience in a materials development or industrial research environment with demonstrable evidence of successfully advancing technology projects through an established technology readiness process is essential.
