Security Team Leader at University of Chester

Salary: £26,093 – £28,031 (OS5)
Hours: 36.5 per week, rotating shifts across a 24/7 operation
Location: Exton Park (with travel to other University sites as required)

The University of Chester is looking for a committed Security Team Leader to join our dedicated security team. You will play a key role in maintaining a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for students, staff and visitors across our campuses.

This is a varied and rewarding position where strong leadership, excellent communication, and a customer‑focused approach are essential.

What you’ll do

• Lead, support and oversee a team of Security Officers
• Provide a visible, approachable and reassuring presence across University sites
• Respond calmly and professionally to on‑site incidents, contacting emergency services when required
• Carry out regular patrols, CCTV monitoring and routine fire alarm testing
• Manage security logs, maintain accurate records and escalate issues appropriately
• Offer clear information and assistance to students, staff and visitors
• Support parking and access control across the estate
• Provide first aid when needed (training available)
• Work collaboratively with internal teams to maintain a safe and positive campus environment

What we’re looking for
Essential:

• Experience in a Security, Porter or similar role
• Excellent communication skills and a strong team ethos
• Ability to remain calm, make decisions and solve problems
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise
• Level 3 qualification (A‑level or equivalent)
• First Aid and Mental Health First Aid (or willingness to complete training)
• Full driving licence (maximum 5 points)
• Ability to work a rotating shift pattern including nights and weekends
• Successful DBS check

Desirable:

• Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role
• Experience in a Higher Education environment
• Basic knowledge of security systems
