    Senior Technician Training - Pharmacy Aseptics

    Main duties of the job

    • This role plays a key part in developing a skilled, confident, and competent workforce within Pharmacy Aseptic Services at UHS. It exists to ensure that staff working in aseptic production and pharmacy apprenticeship pathways receive high‑quality training, assessment, and ongoing professional development. By supporting both new starters and experienced operators, the post helps maintain the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of aseptically prepared medicines for patients across the Trust.
    • Working closely with the aseptic teams, the postholder will coordinate and deliver structured training programmes, oversee competency assessments, and contribute to annual refresher training and operator re‑validations.
    • The role also supports service improvement by identifying training needs linked to new equipment, updated procedures, and evolving regulatory requirements. Alongside the training responsibilities, the post includes operational work within aseptic services to maintain technical skills and ensure training remains grounded in current practice.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    • This role supports the training and competency assessment of staff working within Pharmacy Aseptic Services. You will design, deliver, and coordinate training programmes for new and existing staff, support annual refresher training and operator re‑validations, and act as a skills assessor and educational supervisor for accredited courses.
    • Working closely with the aseptic teams, you will ensure staff are trained to GMP standards, escalate concerns appropriately, and contribute to service improvement through identifying training needs linked to new equipment, updated procedures, and evolving regulatory requirements.
    • Alongside your training responsibilities, you will maintain your own aseptic practice by working operationally within the unit, supporting safe and compliant production, and performing pre‑ and in‑process checks. You will contribute to quality assurance activities, audits, error monitoring, and the development and review of SOPs. The role also supports safe medicines management, staff induction, recruitment processes, and the aseptic emergency duty service, ensuring high standards of patient care and alignment with Trust values.

    Qualifications, knowledge and experience
    Essential criteria

    • Registered pharmacy technician in UK by GPhC / registered Science Manufacturing Technician (Apprenticeship Standard- Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals processing) in UK by the Science Council
    • Numerate and literate e.g. GCSE in Maths and English 5-9 or equivalent or IELTS test score 7 as required by GPhC if overseas candidate
    • One of the following additional pharmacy qualifications – Accredited Checking PT (ACPT) Pre and In Processing Checking (PIPC) medicine management accreditation, TAQA assessor, CIPS level 4, foundation management or equivalent demonstrable experience of day-to-day operational management of staff and workload.
    • Achieve and maintain in-house competencies in all relevant areas of practice
    • Completion of Practice supervisor programme or equivalent. Or able to complete within 12 months in post
    • Experience of working in a pharmacy aseptic unit relevant to role
    • Supervisory experience in a pharmacy aseptic unit
    • Experience of training staff Communicating effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, with members of the healthcare and pharmacy team.

    • Experience of staff management/operational workload supervision
    • Additional pharmacy qualifications such as APTUK Foundation Framework
    • Experience of rota management
    • Experience of using computerised Pharmacy stock control systems e.g. CMM Experience of using electronic prescribing and compounding management systems e.g. Medcura.
