About the Role
4-Year Technical Apprenticeship Programme
Working Hours:
Monday to Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (36.5-hour week)
Includes day release to Warwickshire College Group for theoretical and practical learning.
We are offering an exciting opportunity to join a highly innovative university department through our four-year modern Technical Apprenticeship Programme. As part of the Technical Services team, you’ll play a vital role in supporting WMG’s cutting-edge research.
This apprenticeship combines academic progression through a Level 4 college course with hands-on experience. You'll gain practical skills and in-depth knowledge by working with a dynamic technical team and a growing apprentice network.

About You
- Genuine interest in engineering and technology, with some hands-on experience (formal or informal) in areas like mechanical work, electronics, or similar technical projects.
- A curiosity for understanding how things work and a passion for problem-solving. An innovative mindset, with a willingness to experiment and learn from failure.

Job purpose (a brief summary of the role)
- To participate in and complete a four-year modern apprenticeship. To attend college to
- complete relevant academic studies. The training received will help you develop skills in typical engineering practices.
Duties and responsibilities
Complete a four-year Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship provided by Warwickshire College Group. This comprehensive program includes:
- Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- (theory)
- Six Foundation Competencies focusing on manual and practical skills
- End-Point Assessment, including a portfolio, a log book and supporting evidence
- Professional Recognition as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) by a recognized engineering institution.
- Participate in training across various engineering disciplines offered by WMG, including enrolment in WMG’s Technical Apprenticeship Placement Programme.This programme provides hands-on experience in a broad range of specializations, such as Advanced Machining, Additive Manufacturing,
- Automation Systems, Battery Materials and Cell Manufacturing, Energy
- Applications, Engineering Materials and Assembly, Intelligent Vehicles, Laser
- Beam Welding, Metrology and 3D Imaging, Mechanical Testing, Nanocomposite
- Materials, Polymers and Composites, Steel Processing, Electron Microscopy,
- Materials Characterization, Fabrication, Health and Safety, Compliance, and general safe workshop practices.
Attend Warwickshire College Group (Rugby and Trident Centres) to undertake and complete all required practical and theoretical studies..
- To understand WMG and the University of Warwick’s health and safety policy and comply with current legislation, acting immediately on hazards, near misses and unsafe practices in conjunction with other staff.
- To participate in the probationary process, regularly work based learning manager reviews, and work to achieve agreed objectives.
- To undertake any other duties as required by the Technical Services Staff in accordance with grade and nature of job
