The Role
Deal Advisory Tax provides market leading services to both Corporate and Financial investors. Whilst we have teams focused on clients in four key markets Corporates; Private Equity & Credit; Real Estate and Energy & Infrastructure, we are a national and connected team, working and learning with each other.
- Corporates: We work alongside some of the most forward-thinking FTSE 100 and 250 businesses, as well as Corporates across the UK, supporting them with strategic acquisitions, carve outs, de-mergers, disposals, and joint ventures both in the UK and cross-border. Our corporates business is a multi-sector business, including Consumer, Life sciences, TMT, Industrials, ENR and Banking & Insurance.
- Asset Management: We work with Private Equity, Infrastructure, Renewable/ Energy transition, and Real Estate Funds, both large and mid-cap, as well as institutional investors such as Sovereign Wealth Funds and Pension Funds. Our clients have UK, European and Global investment strategies and will often have teams across multiple asset classes which allows our people to experience different types of transactions.
The Deal Advisory Tax team provides advisory services across the whole deal spectrum including buy-side due diligence and structuring, sell-side vendor assist and vendor due diligence, refinancing and listing support. Deal sizes can be anywhere from £10m to +£10bn – we work with a variety of clients and on a variety of deals.
We help our clients understand and quantify historical tax issues, structure transactions, model tax considerations and reflect our advice in the legal documents underpinning each transaction, all with a continuous focus on maximising value throughout the investment cycle. Working collaboratively across the KPMG network, our work often involves advice on multiple countries, taxes, and work streams.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Partners and/ or Directors on complex transactions to deliver exceptional advice and service.
- Support in the pursuit of new opportunities, working on proposals and joining pitches.
- Develop and maintain client relationships alongside Deal Advisory
- Be a key KPMG point of contact for clients, legal advisers, and other KPMG teams to facilitate effective delivery.
- Coach and develop colleagues, collaborate with peers and be constantly learning.
- Prepare/ oversee detailed technical advice covering a range of UK and international tax issues.
- Perform/ oversee detailed analysis of tax related documents/ data, highlighting key issues and articulating the commercial impact of these to the client.
- Collaborate with other UK and overseas tax specialists, critically analysing and challenging their input.
- Demonstrate up-to-date tax technical knowledge in respect of key UK and OECD developments.
- Understand financial models from a tax perspective.
- Input on Deal Advisory Tax thought leadership
The Person
- Qualified CTA or ACA/ CA or equivalent

Managed Services Tax Technical - Senior Manager
A key focus for KPMG’s GCT team is to help multinational groups and financial services clients manage their global tax compliance, reporting and statutory accounting obligations, through outsourcing, co-sourcing, transformation and technology. More information about our team is at the end of this job description.
The Tax Technical team is a critical enabler to all tax activities within GCT and provides expertise into KPMG’s complex tax audits. Audit quality is of paramount importance and to do this efficiently, we maintain a dedicated and enthusiastic team of tax specialists. We are also the engine room of the tax reporting, compliance, governance and low-level advisory work undertaken by the wider GCT team – servicing large domestic compliance clients as well as our Global Compliance clients.
We are looking for talented Senior Managers to join us with experience in a broad range of areas including:
- Deep corporate tax compliance expertise
- Engagement leadership
- Ad hoc tax advisory experience
- Tax reporting experience (preferred but not essential)
- We have a diverse client base, from mid-market to large FTSE listed groups, from public sector to real estate to financial services. The role involves working on clients of all sizes and across a wide range of sectors.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Build and sustain lasting client relationships across a portfolio of clients and actively building a network and range of experience to help address client needs#
- Manage and supervise the delivery of corporate tax compliance engagements and the management of compliance outsourcing contracts
- Provide compelling and well thought out solutions to problems of moderate complexity;
Drafting advice to clients on the tax implications of new legislation
- Responding to client requests for ad hoc technical advice
- Helping clients to drive efficiency through the compliance process, improving controls, and leveraging technology
- Leading on sales activities by working with more senior members of the team to generate additional work opportunities for both existing clients and targets, supporting proposals and propositions across functions, sectors and accounts
- Supporting with the coaching and development of junior members of staff
- Supporting clients with their group/statutory Tax Reporting needs; including delivery and project management on global outsource contracts under US GAAP and IFRS
- Providing tax technical input for audit of tax on a mix of listed and non-listed multinational groups
Knowledge and Experience:
- Deep working knowledge and experience of UK corporate tax legislation and compliance with a focus on large and complex groups
- Project management/co-ordination skills and experience (e.g. on large/global compliance outsourcing engagements or similar projects)

- BEPs: We are recruiting individuals with tax technical skills and Pillar 2 awareness to support with transformation opportunities that exist with clients and targets. Key stills required include confidence in being able to articulate Pillar 2 impact on compliance and reporting and associated transformation necessary. Transformation upskilling will be provided.
- Managed Services: We are recruiting individuals experienced in leading the overall delivery of global or large UK tax, accounting, compliance and reporting projects. We would welcome applicants that are skilled in one or more of the following areas – tax reporting, transfer pricing, direct/indirect tax and statutory accounting along with project management or experience of managing multi-jurisdictional projects, transition and transformation experience.
- Technology Transformation: We are recruiting individuals with experience of leading technology solutions projects as well as driving new opportunities across Corporates and/or Financial Services. We would welcome applicants qualified by experience in financial and trading systems, ERP and tax technology solutions (e.g. FICO qualified, Thomson Reuters Certified Implementer).
- Tax Operating Model: We are recruiting individuals with broad experience in the Tax Operating Model space. Experience of designing, building and managing various aspects of Tax Operating Model, including tax transformation, compliance and reporting managed services & co-sourcing, tax process design and tax governance is all highly valued. The Role
We are seeking an outstanding individual with the vision to help grow and deliver our growing client base. The role is for an experienced TS professional, and will involve applying a transactions and financial due diligence skill-set to client opportunities. We envisage that the successful candidate will:
- Specific experience of the TMT sector and large and complex transactions will be highly regarded.
- Ideally, have a strong range of existing business relationships with Software, Technology and Media businesses and trusted relationships a across the sector and the deal community more broadly e.g. Investment Banks, Industry Bodies;
- Need to be a “self-starter”, as the role requires a good deal of autonomy.
Roles and responsibilities
- Director appointments are made on the basis of a demonstrated track record of leading multi-disciplinary teams, and building, sustaining and building trusted strategic relationships with clients.
- As engagement leaders, Directors are expected to play a key role in the development of all aspects of the practice:
- Engagement leadership: leading multiple transactional engagements in ambiguous and rapidly changing environments;
- Business development: building, commercialising and sustaining relationships with senior management teams for the benefit of KPMG.
- Leading Deal Advisory relationships with specific clients and identified key accounts, specifically in the TMT sector, and focusing on ‘must win’ opportunities;
- Risk management: managing risks appropriately and ensuring the Firm's risk management frameworks are implemented appropriately and effectively;
- Team development: identifying and bringing on new team members, with particular emphasis on coaching and skills transfer;
- Personal development: participating in the career and skills development of more junior staff and acting as a role model with colleagues and clients by living the values of the Firm;

The Person
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
To succeed in this varied and demanding role you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Strong academic and numerate background (ACA or equivalent highly desirable)
- Extensive experience of winning and delivering engagements with a financial due diligence lead perspective, but with a track record of using this to drive one-firm opportunities;
- The ability to talk credibly to, and evidence of working successfully with, senior management at clients on the key issues facing their respective industries, and their business more generally, and to understand their strategies with a view to identifying relevant transaction opportunities;
- The ability to develop strong client relationships and a proven track record of developing and commercialising new relationships, with particular emphasis on developing new relationships (outright or within clients with existing coverage);
- A commercial mind-set, with the ability to maximise revenue opportunities for the whole of KPMG;
- A high degree of resilience and a willingness to work under extreme pressure in rapidly changing situations, as well as sometimes with significant autonomy;
- Strong personal impact, and comfortable dealing with senior and C suite level stakeholders (inside and outside KPMG);
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
