Head of Market & Competitive Intelligence, Europe

We are seeking an outstanding individual to lead our Market & Competitive Intelligence function within the European Executive Office. The role sits at the center of the European business and is responsible for shaping how the European Leadership Team and Boards understand market reality, competitive dynamics and emerging industry shifts.

The Head of Market & Competitive Intelligence will define the external insight agenda; determining what matters, how it should be analysed, and how it is synthesized for executive decision-makers. While the role does not own strategy or execution, it plays a critical role in shaping strategic choices by grounding decisions in rigorous, forward-looking market intelligence. This role requires the incumbent to be, or to become, deeply externally networked across the European asset management ecosystem, maintaining active relationships with industry leaders, advisors, data providers and thought leaders.

This is a high visibility leadership position with regular exposure to senior leadership and Board-level discussions.

    Key Responsibilities

The role has three core pillars:

    European Market & Competitive Intelligence

    • Define and prioritise the firm’s market and competitor intelligence agenda.
    • Lead analysis of competitors’ strategy, product evolution, pricing, distribution and business model shifts.
    • Monitor industry structure trends including flows, fee dynamics, regulatory developments and ecosystem disruption.
    • Build and sustain a strong external network to source insight, challenge internal perspectives and identify emerging themes ahead of market consensus.
    • Identify emerging risks and opportunities across a 12–36 month horizon.
    • Translate competitive and market developments into clear, forward-looking implications for Vanguard’s strategy, positioning and operating choices in Europe.

    Analytical Frameworks & Insight Architecture

    • Develop structured competitor profiles, ecosystem maps and thematic deep dives.
    • Maintain disciplined horizon scanning to reduce strategic surprise.
    • Leverage advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools to enhance competitive monitoring, synthesis and insight generation, raising both the speed and quality of executive intelligence.

    Executive & Board-level Synthesis

    • Curate market and competitive content for Executive Committee and Board materials.
    • Proactively shape leadership dialogue by surfacing emerging competitive trends and framing second- and third-order implications, ensuring focus on what may change next, not just what has already changed.
    • Ensure a coherent, externally grounded enterprise narrative, raising the clarity and consistency of market-related insight across the organisation.
    • Provide concise briefing materials to support senior decision-making.

    Key Capabilities

    • Creates a high‑performance culture through coaching, continuous feedback, and deliberate talent development.
    • Deep understanding of the European asset management and wealth ecosystem.
    • Strong external orientation, commercial judgement and strategic pattern recognition.
    • Capability and ambition to act as a driver of AI adoption, translating new tools into practical, high-impact ways of working.
    • Exceptional synthesis and visualization skills — able to distil complexity into clarity.
    • Credibility and gravitas to engage senior stakeholders, and the confidence to challenge internal assumptions with evidence and insight.
    • High standards for clarity, precision and executive communication.

    Special Factors:

    • Vanguard is not offering visa sponsorship for this position.
    • This position is hybrid and would require you to be in the office three days per week
