    Workshop Technician

    Overview

    We are currently looking to recruit a Workshop Technician to be part of the AMRC Training Centre Team. As a Workshop Technician, you will be responsible for the workshop maintenance and technical support in the delivery of the Engineering Training for both the apprenticeship and technical pathways within the training centre. The candidate will be the point of contact for any facilities issues for the training centre and will liaise with the necessary contacts to resolve any problems.  You will also be expected to help develop and support any workshop delivery, commercial delivery and enrichment activities.

    You will have a Minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, (BTEC/NVQ/C&G/HNC) and relevant trade/industrial experience.

    Main duties and responsibilities

    • Perform routine preventative maintenance on workshop equipment, problem solve machine issues and return machines to safe working order
    • Ensure that measuring devices are checking and are accurate
    • Ensure the availability of workshop consumables in line with an agreed budget
    • Ensure all resources received are booked in and stored within the relevant locations
    • Use various workshop machinery to produce any delivery resources as required
    • Contribute to the improvement of the Training Centre and efficiency of the workshop by implementing and maintaining agreed 6S actions
    • Perform general duties in accordance with AMRC Training Centre internal procedures, quality systems and Health and Safety systems
    • Carry out duties as the point of contact for the AMRC Training Centre facility and ensure any facility faults are logged, reported and actioned through the appropriate contacts.
    • Carry out duties as the secondary point of contact for the Training Centre Health & Safety reporting
    • Act as a Training Centre representative within the environmental working group
    • Work as part of a team with staff from all areas of the AMRC Training Centre
    • Support the AMRC Training Centre with events and induction activities in core AMRC TC business hours
    • Maintain the reputation of the AMRC Training Centre through a high standard of professionalism in all aspects of work
    • Attend any training sessions that are required to undertake the role, or for CPD requirements
    • As a member of staff you will be encouraged to make ethical decisions in your role, embedding the University sustainability strategy into your working activities wherever possible.
    • Will be required to be flexible, and carry out duties that are necessary to support the AMRC Training Centre and other duties which are commensurate with the grade of this post.

    Criteria

    • To hold as a minimum a Level 3 qualification in engineering (BTEC/NVQ/C&G/HNC) and/or significant relevant experience
    • To have significant experience of technical work within a Manufacturing Workshop environment or an apprenticeship workshop delivery setting.
    • To have knowledge of various Health & Safety and Quality systems
    • To have proven experience in the monitoring of consumable usage
    • To have effective verbal and written communication skills, report writing skills, experience of communicating to staff and stakeholders at all levels
    • To hold knowledge, experience and understanding of the important aspects of a successful team
    • To have the ability to develop creative approaches to problem solving
    • To have excellent time management and organisational skills and an understanding of meeting deadlines
    • To have the ability to organise resources and plan and progress work activities
    • To possess the ability to recognise and take opportunities to update and acquire new skills and knowledge
    • To have knowledge of various workshop practices and processes
    • To have experience of working within a lean management system or associated methodologies
