    £16.34 per hour plus a shift premium of £4.08

    Administration Assistant

    HGV Technician

    You will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of vehicles and waste management handling equipment to meet health and safety legislation and DVSA requirements.

    You will also carry out scheduled preventative service and maintenance inspections to meet Biffa’s operator’s licence commitments. Our fleet ranges from light commercial vans all the way up to 44t articulated specialist assets, a real diverse fleet giving plenty of opportunity to learn and develop your existing technical knowledge.

    We are looking for professionals that may have had the previous roles – PSV Mechanic, Heavy Goods Technician, Lorry Mechanic, LGV Technician, HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic.

    Training Supervisor (LGV Driver & Frontline Trainer)

    A quick look at the role

    • You will carry out training for drivers, loaders, operatives and supervisors at Biffa’s recycling and waste management contracts in Manchester, ensuring that employees are fully equipped to carry out their roles.
    •  You will have previous experience in a training role or be an experienced driver in the waste management industry, or another service industry.  You’ll also need a Category C entitlement on your driving licence and be experienced at driving different types of vehicles.
    • This is a vital role in supporting Biffa’s health and safety-focused culture.

    Your core responsibilities

     Operational Support:

    • Assist depots in achieving Vehicle Gate Check, Crew Monitoring, and Route Risk Assessment targets. Mentor staff by addressing and correcting unsafe or non-compliant behaviours observed during checks. Report major vehicle cleanliness or condition issues to the Business Manager.

     Training Delivery:

    • Deliver all training to a consistently high standard, aligned with Group Training Standards and contractual obligations. Tailor content to meet contract specifications and operational needs.

     Driver Coaching & Compliance:

    • Coach drivers to improve skills, reduce accidents, and prevent Operator Licence contraventions. Alert Business Managers when drivers fall below competency requirements.

     Depot-Based Training (DBT):

    • Conduct training on key operational practices, including: Wheel torquing, Manual handling, Vehicle defect checks, In-cab PDA usage, Tachographs/logbooks, Driver debriefs

    Requirements

    Our essential requirements

    • LGV Category C (Class 2) Driving Licence
    • Valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
    • Working knowledge of transport and other relevant legislation
    • Previous waste or service industry experience
    • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical-service environment
    • IT literate – comfortable using business software and systems and Microsoft Office Suite
    • Excellent time management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines

    LGV Driver Trainer

    To support the safe and effective running of day-to-day operations of a Depot by ensuring all drivers are trained to a high standard. Ensuring that statutory, legal and operational requirements for safe, competent drivers are met and maintained through monitoring driver practices and behaviour through induction and vocational training. And where appropriate take efficient action to ensure our driver community remains safe and compliant.

    • Recruitment and Onboarding: Support the hiring process with pre-employment assessments and deliver a comprehensive 5-day Driver Induction aligned with standards and legislation.

    • Record Management: Maintain accurate driver competence and training records using Express Class.
    • Post-Incident Support: Offer reassessment and retraining for drivers following incidents.
    • Driving Performance Reviews: Regularly analyse driving data with management to identify and address support needs.
    • Behavioural Interventions: Conduct targeted support for drivers requiring improvements in actions or behaviours.
    • Vehicle Updates Communication: Stay updated on vehicle technical changes and share relevant information with drivers.
    • Continuous Improvement and Development: Enhance training delivery, optimise driver learning, and pursue personal professional development.

    • Minimum 3 years of HGV driving experience, including multiple HGV modes.
    • Proven expertise in conducting driver assessments.
    • Valid Class 2 HGV Licence and Digital Tachograph.
    • Up-to-date CPC Training.
    • Basic understanding of HGV mechanics and maintenance.
    • Proficient in driver checks and reporting procedures.
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Working Time Directive.
    • Flexible with work hours, including early starts, late finishes, night shifts, and weekends as needed.
