    Director of Estates & Facilities

    About the role
    The Director of Estates is accountable to the Chief Operating Officer to: 

    • Lead the Estates service, enabling a culture that delivers an efficient, ambitious and successful service, whilst balancing the multiple requirements and priorities of colleagues, students and other stakeholder groups. 
    • Lead the strategic development of the University’s estate through any capital development, and refurbishment, acquisitions and disposals as well as effective and efficient Facilities Management in line with the strategic plan. 
    • Create, enhance and fully exploit the potential of BU’s built assets through the provision of value added Property and FM services throughout the University. Be responsible for the provision of client centred services for estates planning, management and facility support activities.
    • Lead the development and implementation of the University’s strategic plans for the estates service.  
    • Lead BU’s Sustainability and Carbon Management agenda ensuring we continue to be and be seen to be an environmentally sustainable university and achieve a commitment to net zero in line with agreed strategy and timescales.
    • As a member of the University Leadership Team, play a pivotal role in strategy definition and executive management maximising the value gained from investment in the estate.
    • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous review of the university’s Business Continuity Plan (BCP), ensuring alignment with institutional risk management and emergency planning frameworks.

    Mental Health Adviser (Fixed-term, Part-time)

    About the role

    • Bournemouth University is seeking a compassionate and skilled Mental Health Adviser for 18.5 hours a week on a fixed term basis until October 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to students’ lives by supporting their mental health, wellbeing, and academic success.
    • You will work directly with students experiencing a range of mental health conditions, providing expert advice, guidance, and strengths-based support to help them develop strategies for self-management and independent learning throughout their university journey.

You will bring excellent communication skills, sound professional judgement, and a calm, empathetic approach to working with students from diverse backgrounds.

    Research Assistant

    About the role

    • The School of Computing & Engineering is seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Research Assistant who will be affiliated with its Data Science & Intelligent Systems group. The group is very dynamic, ambitious, well networked and delivers state-of-the-art research in a range of machine learning and data science topics, publishing research results in prestigious venues.
    • The researcher will join the EU-funded ARTEMIS project, under the direction of Prof Hamid Bouchachia, working towards the development of machine learning and AI methods with application in the medical field. The position will be suitable for any master’s degree first-degree in ML and AI.
    • The successful candidate will investigate and develop federated learning algorithms for both scalable and privacy-guaranteed clustering and classification. The focus is mostly on longitudinal multimodal data (involving imaging, clinical, biology and multi-omics data), where representation learning and multi-modal data fusion are of key importance. The exact boundary of the research work will cover any of the listed aspects in a way to contribute to the delivery of the project by conducting relevant research leading to publishable outputs.
    •  The role of the Research Assistant is to contribute to the delivery of the project in terms of planning, designing, and conducting research leading to published outputs and exploitable results.
    • The researcher will have access to funding for international travel, e.g., for attending conferences, attending the consortium meetings, and research dissemination, while working in a supportive, collaborative, inclusive and non-discriminating working environment.     Head of Campus Commercial Services

    The role

    This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for all major campus commercial services. This includes student accommodation, catering and retail, hospitality and conferencing, and other income-generating services across the estate.

    The role oversees around £9 million of annual income and works with both in-house teams and external partners. You will be part of the Estates & Facilities Team and will work closely with senior leaders across the University.

    But this role is about more than income. It is about shaping campus life at BU.
