    Lead Specialist - High Integrity Vessels

    • Reporting to the Senior Manager for Major Reactor Island Equipment, the Lead Specialist – High Integrity Vessels is responsible for providing technical expertise and strategic direction for the design, integration, and lifecycle assurance of the Rolls-Royce SMR High Integrity Vessels.
    • Working collaboratively across engineering teams, the Lead Specialist will provide expertise on subject matters such as Structural Integrity, Structural Analysis, ASME Code compliance and beyond code requirements. They will act as the technical focal point for internal stakeholders, external partners, suppliers and regulatory stakeholders.
    • The Lead Specialist will ensure these components meet stringent nuclear safety, performance, and regulatory requirements across all phases of the SMR lifecycle.
    • The ideal candidate will be a highly respected professional with extensive industry experience and deep expertise in the design and analysis of safety-critical nuclear equipment.

    Key selection criteria:

    • The candidate shall have a broad understanding of the design, manufacture, operation and through-life management of High Integrity Vessels in the Nuclear Industry (e.g. RPVs, Steam Generators and Pressurisers).
    • Extensive knowledge and understanding of structural integrity in the context of High Integrity Vessels in the nuclear industry.
    • Proactively research and collaborate to build industry knowledge, which they embed within their department. They lead communities of practice to enhance engineering, technology, and safety standards for High Integrity Vessels. Stay at the forefront of industry developments, ensuring new approaches are understood and integrated into team and departmental practices.
    • Manage complex stakeholder scenarios to ensure cross-functional alignment. They work closely with senior leadership to define, validate, and assure specialist capabilities. They effectively communicate technical and strategic insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Clearly articulate both technical and strategic insights to diverse stakeholders. Proactively address domain-specific challenges, escalating only when necessary. As a technical lead for High Integrity Vessels, they advocate for logical, proportionate, and pragmatic solutions. They collaborate with senior leaders to define and assure specialist capabilities, and ensure their work is well-documented and communicated for auditability and continuity.

    Pay and Benefits:

    We anticipate paying a salary of between £57,600- £74,500 plus:-

    • Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%

    Head of Mechanical Equipment

    The Head of Mechanical Equipment is accountable for development of fully integrated technical solutions, ways of working, and technical governance across the Mechanical Equipment scope, inclusive of:  

    • Plant Equipment – Heat Exchangers, Waste Equipment, HVAC Equipment etc 
    • Commodity Equipment – Pumps, Valves, Pipework, Fittings, Fixings, Standard Parts etc  
    • Support Equipment – equipment intended to support the installation, commissioning, maintenance and through life support of the components and mechanical equipment 
    • The role covers the senior technical and programme leadership of a large department of design engineers, as well as the management of significant design contracts in the supply chain.  This includes: the overall direction and governance of the programmes of work under their scope; accepting the validity of the technical solutions developed under their direction; the delivery of a robust design and safety justification, supported by detailed underpinning assessment; ensuring outputs comply with environment, safety, security and safeguards (E3S) objectives; developing the team capabilities and resilience; and resolving emergent issues. 
    • This role is a senior leadership figure within Engineering. It requires domain knowledge and expertise, excellent leadership skills, the ability to inspire and motivate others, and the ability to influence business and strategic direction. They will use their experience and abilities to steer and influence at all levels, displaying a positive and collaborative leadership style, to ensure successful department management.  Success will demand engagement with a wide range of senior internal and external stakeholders, inclusive of industry bodies and regulators, to ensure the analysis programme and safety case are progressed in accordance with broader business and legislative requirements.  

    Key Selection Criteria:

    • Experience of the whole product lifecycle of components and mechanical equipment is needed to enable an ability to lead.  Ideally the candidate has multiple examples of product development experience and experience of leading and developing the product development programmes at various stages of the project maturity stages.  Whilst it is not important that the leader is expert in all components within the scope of this role, evidence of leading some of these would be an advantage to demonstrate a track record, aiding the leadership needed for this role.
    • Experience of leading large technical teams at a Senior level.  Strong leadership is vital to have a big impact and improve the organisations technical direction but also if building and developing a fast-growing business.   The candidate will have exceptional communication skills, be comfortable in a senior leadership position, and have experience leading in a complex, uncertain and ambiguous environment, being comfortable with change and leading positively despite the challenges.  
    • The ability to lead cross functionally within the business is key to success, this will involve building relationships and demonstrating the necessary behaviours to enable strong collaboration.   The individual will identify and seek out areas of weakness in the business cross functional collaboration and actively pursue resolution, this will be required at all levels in the business.
    • Demonstrates a strong and well-rounded understanding of the broader business landscape, with the ability to align engineering strategies and technical decisions with overarching organisational goals. Applies commercial awareness and strategic thinking to influence outcomes beyond the immediate scope of engineering, contributing to sustainable business success. 
    • The role requires the ability to influence, motivate and inspire all levels of the business both up and down the organisation and across in all interfacing functions.  The role will be key in strategic relationship building so business can be effectively conducted with the department and teams both internally and within the global community.   This role is a key position that will be pivotal in engaging the business effectively to achieve the delivery demands for the power station build programme and will play a crucial role in driving business alignment.   
    • The candidate will be a proven senior engineering leader with a strong proven record of delivery of large complex product development programmes.  
    • As a senior engineering and integration role, this position will require extensive interaction at all levels, internal and external to the company and strong collaboration across all business functions.

    Qualification required:

    • Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Nuclear, or related). 
    • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards equivalent professional status. 
    • Significant experience in mechanical/component design within a highly regulated industry.

    Supplier Selection and Management:

    • Select and manage the Rolls-Royce global supply chain that will deliver the most efficient and cost-effective service to SMR development. Establish the commercial framework in which the suppliers shall operate, ensuring cost competitiveness, value for money and cost improvement is achieved.     Senior Simulation Engineer

    What you’ll be doing:

    • The Performance & Analysis team is the centre of excellence within Rolls-Royce SMR for the engineering analysis used to prove the performance and safety of the power station. 
    • The team are building whole-plant Engineering Simulators as part of their strategy, utilising Simulation Assisted Engineering for use cases spanning all aspects of design and development.
    • Reporting to the Simulation Development Manager, you will be involved in the development, validation and verification of software simulation models of nuclear power plant and C&I systems using suitable modelling tools and software validation and verification techniques. 
    • You will support the integration of simulation models within the overall simulation model architecture and the integration of the software simulation models with hardware simulation facilities. The simulation model will be used to support design activities, analysis campaigns, verification programmes, validate C&I systems, and train operators.
    • You will support the development of the modelling and simulation environment, policies, procedures, and tool sets, and support the definition of hardware simulation facilities and processes and tools for integration.

    The key responsibilities will include:

    • Develop and quality assure dynamic models of plant and C&I systems.
    • Contribute to the development of Simulator Assisted Engineering as an analysis method.
    • Manage source code: Define and enforce version control strategies for several streams of simulator software workstreams using Git and Azure Repos.
    • Promote an agile DevOps culture: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including analysis model developers and plant system owners to streamline collaboration and improve the delivery process.
    • You will join a growing specialist Simulation development team of 4 which is has further growth plans throughout 2026 & beyond. 
    • As a senior engineer, you may be required to lead small teams of 1-3 engineers, providing technical supervision, direction and mentorship. You may be required to lead Integrated Project teams for specific activities.

    Key Requirements & Experience:

    • Proven experience in Software Engineering within agile environments, dynamic modelling (e.g. Simulink), and software verification/validation. 
    • Skilled in programming languages and hardware/software integration. 
    • Familiarity with control systems design and tools such as GSE SimExec, RELAP, JADE Suite is advantageous. 
    • A background in Systems Engineering, including concept development, data management, and requirements analysis
    • Experience in cross-functional collaboration, working with diverse teams and external partners. 
    • Knowledge of safety-critical systems and relevant industry standards (e.g. IEC 61508, ISO 9001) is beneficial. 
    • Typically you will be Degree qualified in Computational Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or similar.

    Lead Specialist – Radiological Consequences Analysis

    What you’ll be doing: 

    • The Radiological Consequences team perform radiological consequences analysis (RCA) of the RR-SMR design during faulted and accident conditions to substantiate the safety of the power station. We are responsible for the calculation of off-site and on-site radiological consequences during design basis and severe accidents. 
    • We work alongside the design, performance and safety teams to understand the technical nature of the reactor plant design and produce RCA which characterises system performance, informs intelligent design decisions and ultimately verifies the performance and safety of the final design. Our work directly supports the deterministic and probabilistic safety assessments for the RR-SMR and the demonstration of ALARP.
    • You will be an experienced Radiological Consequences professional with a strong proven track record of defining & delivering analysis programmes, addressing complex engineering, technology and safety challenges across the domain.

    The key responsibilities will include:

    • Provide technical expertise and experience to the Radiological Consequences Manager, supporting the development of strategy, interfaces and the forward work programme for the Radiological Consequences area.
    • Lead complex analysis work packages, including definition of the analysis basis, development and justification of appropriate method aspects, and management of interfaces with other technical areas.
    • Provide technical supervision of Radiological Consequences Analysts to perform RCA in line with best practice and to standard policies and processes.
    • Application of rigorous quality assurance processes consistent with nuclear industry requirements to the development of analysis methodologies, models, and tools.
    • Delivery of quality analysis tasks to time and cost, supported by effective stakeholder management and strong communication skills.

    Assistant Chief Design Engineer - Components and Mechanical Equipment

    • Reporting to the Chief Design Engineer (CDE), the Assistant Chief Design Engineer (ACDE) for Components and Mechanical Equipment plays a key leadership role in supporting the delivery of integrated technical solutions across the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme. The ACDE provides expert technical oversight, supports the leadership of large multidisciplinary teams, and ensures that component and mechanical equipment meet all delivery requirements, are fit for purpose and support the power station development.   
    • The ACDE acts as a senior technical authority within the Components and Mechanical Equipment function, providing expert oversight across the full engineering lifecycle—from concept development through to design substantiation, manufacture, delivery and installation. 
    • The ACDE works closely with senior delivery managers to manage technical risks, resolve key strategic issues, and coordinate and drive all cross-functional dependencies. The role supports the development and governance of mechanical components across both the nuclear and conventional islands where applicable, including in-house and externally sourced equipment. The ACDE also contributes to the development of engineering capability, supplier engagement, and continuous improvement across the product lifecycle. 
    • The candidate will be a senior leader in mechanical component / equipment with a strong proven track record of delivery of complex cross functional programmes and with a high level of aptitude for leadership.  A strategic thinker who is comfortable leading within a developing business and circumnavigating the challenges that this brings with ambiguity, changing business and customer demands and emergent business needs, demonstrating exemplary leadership behaviours in the face of these challenging circumstances.  There is an expectation that the candidate can flex and evolve within the role, within the business and be a leader as the team develops.  

    Key Selection Criteria:

    • Experience in providing an overseeing and governance role.  Ability in making big, complex decisions at a senior level.  Chairing reviews and governing across the complete component and mechanical equipment landscape.
    • Demonstrates the ability to lead, influence, and collaborate effectively across multiple engineering and non-engineering disciplines to deliver integrated technical and programme outcomes. 
    • Demonstrates effective leadership across diverse teams and disciplines, fostering collaboration and alignment to deliver complex, high-impact outcomes.
    • Demonstrable track record and experience of leading mechanical equipment product development programmes over the whole product lifecycle.  Experience of multiple components within the nuclear context is essential. 
    • The successful candidate must be comfortable being highly visible within the business, will tackle and operate challenges at every level. Exemplifies strong senior leadership through strategic vision, decisive action, and the ability to inspire and align diverse teams toward common goals.

    Pay and Benefits:

    We anticipate paying a salary between £80,000 - £106,000 Dependant on Experience
