    Library Assistant

    Qualifications/Experience

    General Assistant

    The Role

    General Assistants are responsible for supporting a professional, responsive and efficient catering service for students, staff and visitors, ensuring that food production is presented, served, replenished to an exceptional standard and in line with standard operating procedures. The post holder will also assist with day-to-day cleaning of kitchen and catering equipment, receipt and storage of goods, checking and signing for deliveries.

    Catering team members will be expected to adopt and promote a flexible approach to working, and to undertake any or all the tasks outlined below regardless of their designated shift.

    Successful candidates are expected to always promote a positive image of University Catering and Durham University.

    Specific Role Information

    There are various contracts available, these can be discussed in further detail at the interview stage.

    • St Aidan's College: 30 hours per week, 52 weeks a year
    • St Aidan's College: 35 hours per week, 52 weeks a year
    • Hatfield College: 35 hours per week, 32 weeks a year

    The post holder will be required to work any 5 days out of 7, which may include some evenings and weekends. Typical working hours are between 7am and 9:30pm.

    Working in the catering team requires an element of physical manual handling, which can include lifting and transporting catering equipment.

    Housekeeping & Cleaning Assistant

    The Role 

    Housekeeping and Cleaning Assistants are responsible for delivering a range of cleaning/housekeeping services including the cleaning and servicing of student bedrooms, bathrooms, guest accommodation, facilities, offices and common areas of the College used by students and commercial customers.   

    Teams ensure agreed standards are maintained, with particular reference to student and customer comfort and satisfaction. 

    Working as a Housekeeping and Cleaning Assistant you will work with our friendly Operations Teams amongst a lively and interesting student environment.  No previous cleaning experience is needed for this role as full training will be provided.  We just ask that you are hardworking, able to follow instructions, a team player and are friendly and approachable. 

    Specific Role Information 

    We will require you to be punctual, flexible, and willing to work variable shift patterns, including evenings and weekends. 

    We have different contracts available and all contracts are issued on an up to 5 from 7 with a number of days worked depending on the contract size. Predominantly working days are Monday to Friday, however, some weekend work may be required and this will be communicated following the rostering principles.

    • Experience of implementing policies and procedures and supporting service improvements.

    Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

    • Excellent spoken and written communication skills including the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
    • Strong digital competence across a range of digital devices and apps including a wide range of software solutions, operating systems, networking, database and data transfer protocols.
    • Experience of designing and implementing complex IT solutions in an enterprise organisations.
    • Committed to continuing professional development to maintain professional recognition.
    • Professional knowledge and experience of compliance and regulations.
    • Ability to solve problems and decide on and plan appropriate solutions.
