    UK EHS Manager

    Role summary

    What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?

    To lead and handle the Health, Safety and Environmental (EHS) function, acting as the subject matter authority, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, industry standards, and corporate policies. The EHS Manager will provide strategic direction and operational support to all functions enabling safe working environments across a diverse multi-functional organisation, including a sophisticated, multi-hazard innovation campus in Southampton and the corporate Head Office in London. Whilst ensuring a clear strategy is built to meet the corporate ESG targets.

    Accountabilities

    • Maintain the governance systems and drive the safety culture.
    • Ensure Leadership teams and Line Mangers understand their EHS & ESG responsibilities.
    • Influence Senior EHS sponsors to ensure ESG objectives are aligned.
    • Ensure relevant EHS Policies are maintained.
    • Develop smart objective and targets in the relevant areas for safety, environment & ESG.
    • Ensure UK environmental and health & safety legislation is supervised and disseminated where appropriate.
    • Ensure all compliance actions are supervised to completion, including but not limited to L8, fire, asbestos, insurance etc.
    • Implement a robust risk-based audit process to check level of compliance
    • Ensure the relevant functions have processes to complete the EHS roadmap and control navigator as the need arises.
    • Handle on-site service provider compliance with SLAs/MSAs.
    • Develop systems and processes are in place to record and supervise near misses and accidents.
    • Support line managers during accident investigation, ensuring root cause is acquired and agreed CAPA.
    • Reporting relevant accidents to Group and HSE as required.
    • Support the insurance team with claims as required.
    • Support the Global Compliance team, by acting as Lead Auditor where required.
    • Act as radiation protection supervisor (RPS).
    • Ensure change control processes are in place and followed to mitigate any risk of change to property, asset or process.
    • Own Facilities Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and Business Impact Assessments (BIA).
    • Lead the utility services, electricity, gas and water. Ensuring accurate billing, reporting to ESG forums, annual utility budgets are met and working with procurement to ensure forecast budgets are accurate.
    • Ensuring compliance to ESOS and any other legislative requirements specific to utilities.
    • Ensuring clear plan for scope 1 & scope 2 ESG projects is implemented, passing projects approved by the COE to projects and acting as the SPOC for ESG CAPEX and project delivery. Ensuring enough carbon credits are purchased for carbon neutrality claims for Head Office and Southampton sites.

    Experience, skills, knowledge

    ESSENTIAL

    Experience Required

    • Management of Health and Safety in a FMCG organisation or similar.
    • Lead safety audit experience.
    • Expert knowledge of COSHH.
    • Leading EHS within complex construction projects (CDM)
    • Management of environmental aspects, with focus on hazardous substances and waste management.
    • ISO14001 lead auditor or equivalent.
    • Methodical approach to data collection and accuracy
    • Handling RIDDOR reports and potential HSE inspections, including GMO, L8 and adhoc inspections

    Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

    • Ability to build relationships and work with people at all levels within the organisation.
    • Confidence to influence at all levels.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to influence key partners.
    • Ability to navigate through uncertain and ambiguous environments.
    • High level of adaptability to different ideas, others’ opinions, and alternative ways of doing things.
    • In depth knowledge of UK EHS legal framework and key legislation.
    • Energy management principles.
    • Experience handling within a facilities function would be an advantage.

    Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

    • Technical or Scientific background
    • NEBOSH Diploma (or industry equivalent).
    • Environmental Diploma (or industry equivalent).
