    Director - MPA - Programme Advisory and Capital Excellence

    The Role

    As a Director, this role provides strategic leadership to the team, working closely with other Directors and Partners to lead and develop our go to market strategy while being accountable for the high quality delivery to our clients. It is a highly accountable leadership role that requires you to wear many hats, but you’ll be well supported by the rest of us.

    • Leading the development of our growth strategy and developing high impact propositions to take to market
    • Building enduring sector relationships and becoming the go to person for our clients on relevant market opportunities
    • Collaborating closely with other KPMG capability and sector leads to build consensus on priority targets and activities 
    • Senior leadership of complex client engagements, including the ability to operate effectively at Board level, providing robust insight to client problems

    For this opportunity, we’re looking for someone with significant leadership experience in Project, Programme and Portfolio (P3M), delivering complex transformation in challenging environments. Ideally you will have transitioned from a delivery, controls or functional PM role into consulting, providing strategic advice at C-Suite level.

    • Capital Investment planning and portfolio management
    • Digital, data and AI transformation and implementation

    • Business process improvement(s)
    • Major programmes / projects setup and operation
    • Target operating model (TOM) design and implementation
    • Designing and enhancing Project, Programme or Portfolio controls
    • Designing, establishing and leading transformation management offices (TMO) or project management offices (PMO)
    • Leading major programme/ project maturity assessment and assurance
    • Troubled Project/Programme reviews and implementing recovery plans
    • A proven history of operating as an effective leader in a complex P3M organisation and/or consulting firm with, primarily built around the leadership of major complex Projects/Programmes and transformational change
    • Proven experience of management and leadership of multi-disciplinary consulting teams of between 5-20 consultants
    • Broad capability and experience across business development, delivery and line management 
    • Specialist Project, Programme and/or Portfolio management expertise, with proven delivery and a passion for the future of the profession  
    • Ideally one or more sector experience in Infrastructure, Transport, Aerospace, Defence, Industrial, Financial Services, Utilities or Manufacturing preferred
    • Demonstrable experience of managing and influencing senior-level stakeholders, having built and sustained key relationships
    • Excellent commercial awareness with strong experience of owning and managing client accounts – alongside ownership and management of significant bids and proposals 
    • Management and leadership of multi-disciplinary teams

    Associate Director - Regulatory Economist (Water)

    The Role

    • You would be joining the leading provider of strategic economic consultancy services in the water sector.
    • While you will have specific responsibilities for contributing towards the team’s water business, there will also be opportunities to work in other sectors, primarily energy networks.
    • Working closely with sector and subject matter experts you will develop to become the ‘go to’ person for water sector economic advice. This will involve developing an in-depth understanding of Ofwat’s regulatory framework.
    • You will build relationships with key clients across the sector, as well as with other advisors (e.g., legal and engineering. The projects that you will advise on will be high profile and caried. For example, in recent years we have advised on the regulatory framework for the Thames Tideway Tunnel, every aspect of water companies' business plans, bulk supply trading negotiations, Competition and Markets Authority re-determinations, major transactions, organisational transformations, and much more. If there is a large strategic project taking place in the sector, the chances are we will be advising on it. 
    • There is no ‘typical project’. You will need to apply a structured strategic approach to problem solving, drawing on established economic principles, while having the capacity to think creatively.  
    • The work will include a combination of report drafting, economic analysis, and engaging with clients. 
    • You will need to be comfortable managing, coaching, and mentoring junior staff across a number of projects. 
    • You will contribute towards building the team, identifying opportunities in the market, and providing thought leadership. 

    The Person

    • We are looking for someone who is passionate to develop the team and be seen as a leader within the sector. 
    • You will have experience in the utilities sector, in the industry, at a regulator, or as a consultant ideally with water sector experience.
    • You will have knowledge either of the regulatory frameworks for utility companies, micro-economics, or finance (ideally all three).
    • You will be comfortable and/or experienced in presenting to clients.
    • Be a highly motivated, ambitious self-starter, willing to take advantages of the opportunities this position offers.
    • You will bring excellent report writing, Excel and PowerPoint skills—strong writing and quantitative skills are a must.

    Indirect Tax Director

    Roles and Responsibilities:
     
    You will be required to work within the Indirect Tax Financial Services team to accelerate the growth of our business. Specifically key aspects will be to:

    • Build relationships with senior stakeholders at clients and targets
    • Be market facing, lead business development initiatives and pitch for work with both new and existing clients, both domestically and internationally, and drive sales
    • Build an internal network within the wider tax, legal and advisory practices of our firm
    • Set the standard for insight and technical opinions delivered to the client - knowledgeable on both client business issues and KPMG solutions, and can match both effectively and deliver them in a compelling way
    • Be confident interacting at the most senior levels internally and externally, while at the same time able to interact well with peers and able to inspire and develop junior members of the team
    • Be positive, enthusiastic, curious with a real passion for indirect tax and helping clients

    Experience and Background:

    • Strong business development and client facing skills with a proven history of being able to identify opportunities and convert them to commercial projects whether from working in a consulting firm or in-house.
    • Strong experience in Real Estate required whilst asset management experience would be beneficial
    • Experience of collaborating and working with other tax specialists, lawyers, finance function managing various stakeholders
    • Strong attention to detail, to enable you to review complex technical problems, whilst maintaining an overall strategic and client service focused perspective, for all deliverables we produce for our clients
    • Communicates with impact, in a way that is open, honest, consistent and clear; has the ability to quickly adapt to a range of situations and audiences from both a written and oral perspective
    • Excellent project management skills and an ability to manage your own workload, as well the workloads of others in your team.

    Power & Utilities Associate Director - Business Rates

    The Role

    We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our market-leading regulatory finance team as an Associate Director with a focus on business rates. We are looking for an ambitious individual who would be excited to take a lead role in building our business rates practice.

    While you will be expected to contribute towards our well-established utilities regulatory consulting practice, this role will primarily be responsible for growing the business rates practice in other sectors, working alongside KPMG’s well-established Tax practice.

    Responsibilities:

    • Play a pivotal role in running projects and maintaining client relationships with minimal supervision from Directors and Partners.
    • Ensure that client work is delivered to the highest standards in both content and form, managing client interactions, tracking budgets, and complying with the company’s risk processes.
    • Lead project teams of 2-12 people, fostering a collaborative spirit and culture of respect. Maintain a positive attitude when the team is under pressure, supporting other team members.
    • Play a key role in our sales efforts, building and maintaining effective relationships with key clients across the sector, as well as with other advisors. Identify and act on new opportunities with both new and existing clients.
    • Be involved in the wider management and development of the P&U Regulatory Finance team, including contributions to recruitment, performance appraisal, mentoring and thought leadership.

    The Person

    Qualifications and skills:

    • Qualified MRICS rating surveyor.
    • Extensive experience of business rates advisory and appeals on diverse property portfolios, throughout the UK
    • Experience in managing large projects, including management of teams, resources and junior colleagues
    • Experience of explaining business rates concepts clearly to ratepayers. Excellent report writing and Powerpoint skills
    • Comfortable and experienced in an external facing role and in presenting to clients
    • An independent thinker with the ability to identify problems and contribute to the development of solutions, helping us to remain at the cutting edge of innovative thinking

    Senior Test Manager- Public Sector

    Job description

    KPMG is creating a new "best in class" Quality Engineering and Testing Practice with a clear mission - to accelerate business change. By leveraging KPMG's considerable in-house industry knowledge with the leading test tools, methods and practices, KPMG is seeking to help our clients deliver efficient, high-quality change – while minimising risk.

    We are currently recruiting Senior Managers to work with KPMG’s Infrastructure, Government and Healthcare (IGH) team, who can make a significant contribution to the development of our Quality Engineering and Testing Practice, through sector expertise, client engagement and delivery of new business opportunities.

    You will help define and grow the testing practice in the public sector, taking responsibility for revenue targets, expanding the pipeline of opportunities and developing value propositions for the market in which we operate, which covers Central and Local Government, Defence, Healthcare, Education, and Transport.

    You will support the Testing Practice Director and Partners in:

    • The development of the Testing Practice by formulating unique, value-add propositions and solutions that meet public sector client requirements, in addition to managing and directing pursuit activity.
    • Delivering an individual revenue sales target.
    • Mentoring and coaching other members of the team.
    • Developing and converting a pipeline of opportunities across public sector clients.
    • Performing a key role in account and sector development across IGH, helping the leadership to build the top line.
    • Building and maintaining strong client relationships across public sector clients, leveraging proven industry content and delivery capability.
    • Performing a senior role in delivery of engagements as required.

    Job Requirements:

    • Sales and Delivery, with associated sales and utilisation targets. Strong bid management abilities, with a proven ability to mentor and coach more junior team members.
    • Solution development, showing a clear ability as a Quality Engineering and Testing Subject Matter Expert to enhance existing solutions, and develop new ones, with specific emphasis on software testing as it relates to IT solutions and transformation in the public sector.
    • People management, building a team of consultants with the right mix of grades, competencies and experience to support client opportunities and projected growth.
    • Project management, with a proven ability to work as Programme Director / Engagement Manager running multiple client projects simultaneously where required.

    Industry Skills and Experience:

    • Experience working for a major advisory business or leading industry institution, ideally with a successful track record of Business Development and successful delivery in the public sector (either across IGH or specialising in a particular area such as government, healthcare, or defence).
    • In-depth experience gained in sell-side institution with exposure to shaping and delivering significant programmes of IT Change.
    • In-depth understanding, knowledge and experience of the testing industry to include:
      • testing services (type, costing, route to market),
      • tools (commercial/open-source, selection and implementation),
      • practices (methods by SDLC-type, test accelerators),
      • metrics (selection, implementation), and
      • key players (suppliers, tool vendors, industry “regulators”).

    Key areas of technical interest include:

    • Test automation and quality engineering
    • Non-functional testing
    • Accessibility testing
    • Testing with AI, and testing of AI

    Individual skills:

    • Experience in the management of complex testing programmes across customer-facing and back-office systems
    • Experience of leading multiple, diverse and complex client programmes.
    • Recognised as having both exceptional technical delivery skills and very strong business knowledge (in the public sector).
    • Strong experience of working with, or for, public sector clients, with a good understanding of the public sector environment (or particular area, such as the government or education sector).
    • Ability to take client aspirations and ideas and support them in turning them into a practical delivery approach for a major programme, in line with relevant standards and business drivers.
    • Experience working closely with technology functions throughout the delivery lifecycle to enable a seamless transition to implementation within tight timeframes.
    • Solid problem-solving skills, ability to analyse complex data, identify core issues, investigate, evaluate and reach appropriate conclusions/solutions.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence senior management and stakeholders, and to build and maintain strong team and client relationships.
    • Broad personal networks across industry to support business development opportunities.
    • Strong interpersonal & written communication skills, both a self-starter and strong team player.
